Poetry Corner: Not Becoming Evil Deplored
We grist on the paucity
Usurping the upending Christ
For a treason of lowest order
Calling on the least within us
How are we to be great
When we must be servant of all
And deny basic dignity
to those Jesus made family
But temptations to become
The evil we deplore are many
When Tony the Tiger hymns
Sing the great tumescent
Yet
I cannot serve if I cannot love
Especially the unloving
Even charlatans of a lord
can find my waiting embrace
I need not speak easy peace
Afraid of slight or leaving
But I must not be other than orans
Wide open to redeem the spite
