Siding with the Victim

We are deeply grateful to those bishops who led the powerful Listening Session on Tuesday evening. Calling us to hear the voices of those who have experienced sexual abuse and to acknowledge all of our complicity in failing to respond. How we are often paralyzed by the complexity of such situations and so fail to act, which ends up protecting the abuser and institution at the expense of the victim.

Respectfully, we submit that a similar dynamic is at work in the conversation around Palestine Israel. In our zeal to hear all sides, we are paralyzed into inaction rather than siding chiefly with the oppressed. On Good Friday, that is what Jesus of Nazareth seems to have done.

Kyrie Eleison.
