TransEpiscopal

TransEpiscopal, a community of transgender, non-binary, and allied Episcopalians and Anglicans, has been working toward the full embrace of and justice for trans and non-binary people within and beyond the borders of the Episcopal Church since 2005. Our efforts took a major leap forward when we joined the Consultation in 2007, a time when the oppression, presence, and gifts of trans and non-binary people were not on the radar of the wider church. With the growing support of allied communities in the Episcopal Church, fellow members of the Consultation first among them, the General Conventions of 2009, 2012, and 2015 took major steps in support of our communities. This summer we look forward to continuing our intersectional partnership with our Consultation allies, supporting a range of legislative efforts:

·       a commitment to safeguard the access of trans and non-binary people to physical spaces and activities within the church (C022)

·       a call for the Convention to oppose legislation in the wider world that would limit our access to restrooms and other gender-marked facilities (C022)

·       a new Book of Occasional Services that includes a (trans and non-binary inclusive) renaming rite (A064)

·       making certain that church records accurately and respectfully reflect our names and genders and protect our privacy (A088)

·       the creation of gender expansive language in our worship (resolution number TBD)

·       a call for the Church Pension Group to collect and analyze employment and compensation statistics for trans and non-binary people, as they already do on the basis of gender for non-transgender people (resolution number TBD)

·       support for trans and non-binary youth in the Episcopal Church, particularly in our schools and camps (C066)

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you at General Convention!
